These are the prototypes and inspiration for various existing and planned structures on the Saint Francis Railroad. Please see the note at the end of the page concerning the use of many of these images.

1. This is the Yankee Girl Mine in Colorado and is the model for the mine and hoist on the layout.
2. This is Tunnel No. 1 in Clear Creek Canyon on the way to Central City. Note the fencing/netting holding back loose rock.
The last two are of a now-bypassed tunnel; it's obvious the pride they took in their stone work.
3. This is the Charlie Taylor (an eccentric gold miner) waterwheel in front of Bridal Veil Falls in Idaho Springs.
The wheel was originally part of a nearby mining mill. The modelling challenges here are endless as are the possibilities.
4. Hanging Lake. This natural structure was started on the second layout and will be be transported to the current layout. Hanging Lake and the east face of Longs Peak are two Colorado natural landmarks that will be part of the layout.
5. This is the famous Crystal Mill here in Colorado and is one of the most photographed abandoned mines in the state. There will eventually be two models of this, one for the layout and one for display.
6. A steel watertower in Yeoville, near Johannesburg, South Africa, built in 1914, the tower stands 91 feet tall and holds 50,000 gallons of water in a 16-ft radius round tank. The mountain yard needs water.
